Description

The Flag Trap Leaf is a flat-bodied super light jigging (SLJ) metal jig from Jackall. Compared with the original Flag Trap, the flattened shape gives a noticeably slower fall, which JACKALL notes is effective for rockfish, flatfish and red seabream that struggle to chase down fast-moving prey. A left-right asymmetric design snaps the jig quickly and reliably into a level fall posture, and it comes standard with an assist hook rigged with a flag tie for extra bite-triggering flash.

This is the 40g size, available in five officially listed colourways. It works well fished with a lift-and-fall retrieve near the bottom, and JACKALL also notes it grips water well enough on a straight retrieve to suit anglers still learning the technique.

Information

The swimming action

A flattened, left-right asymmetric body snaps quickly into a level fall posture and drops noticeably slower than the standard Flag Trap, with an assist hook and flag tie adding flash and movement on the way down.

When to throw it

Suited to rockfish, flatfish and red seabream that struggle to chase down fast-moving prey, worked near the bottom where a slow, controlled fall draws more committed bites than a standard jig.

How to work it

Fish it with a lift-and-fall retrieve near the bottom to make the most of the slow fall; it also grips water well enough on a straight retrieve to suit anglers still learning the technique.

The setup it likes

A light SLJ rod, a 2500-3000 size reel, PE0.6-0.8 braid and a fluorocarbon leader suit this jig's weight, slow-fall presentation and the bottom-hugging species it is designed to draw near the seabed.
