Description

The Evergreen Jack Hammer 3/8oz is a bladed jig (chatterbait) co-designed by Seizo Shimizu and Brett Hite, built on a low-centre-of-gravity flat head with a 0.4mm stainless steel blade, a Gamakatsu Oceanic Bend heavy wire hook, a double wire trailer keeper, a silicone rubber skirt and a Decoy Egg Snap #2 cross-lock snap.

At 3/8oz it's the lightest weight in the range, built to fish the 0.3-1m zone, giving the same tight, high-pitch rolling and wobbling action with the blade knocking against the head for a distinct low-frequency thump you can feel through the rod – suited to shallow cover and skipping under overhangs.

Information

The swimming action

A low-centre-of-gravity flat head, 0.4mm stainless steel blade, silicone rubber skirt and Decoy Egg Snap combine for a tight, high-pitch rolling and wobbling action, with the blade knocking against the head for a low-frequency thump you can feel through the rod.

When to throw it

The lightest weight in the range, it is built to fish the 0.3-1m zone, suited to shallow cover and skipping under overhangs. Its shallow running depth also makes it useful for skipping under docks and overhanging cover where bass hold tight to shade.

How to work it

Wind it steadily on a straight retrieve and let the blade-on-head knock do the work; the Gamakatsu Oceanic Bend heavy wire hook and double wire trailer keeper hold a soft-plastic trailer securely through the retrieve.

The setup it likes

A medium casting rod around 6.8-7ft with a 7:1 baitcasting reel and 12-15lb fluorocarbon suits this lighter 3/8oz chatterbait for shallow cover, with enough backbone to set the hook through a soft-plastic trailer and heavy skirt.
