Description

The Ecogear Minnow S is an 80mm (3-1/2″) soft plastic minnow with a thick body and a tiny straight tail that imitates a bait fish. Each pack contains 10 pieces.

It's designed as a reaction bait, worked with rod-tip and short jerk retrieves to draw strikes from passive fish hunting weakened prey, and can be rigged either no-sinker or on a jighead.

Information

The swimming action

A thick body and a tiny straight tail give this minnow a reaction-bait profile rather than a swimming action of its own, so movement comes almost entirely from the angler's rod tip rather than the lure's built-in kick. That kind of natural, unhurried presentation matters most in clear, calm water where fish get a long, close look at a bait before deciding whether to eat it.

When to throw it

Designed to draw strikes from passive predators hunting weakened baitfish, useful on marks where fish are visible or suspected but not actively feeding, in both light rockfishing and general inshore situations. It is worth carrying a small spread of jighead weights and colours to cover the different current strengths and light levels you meet across a session.

How to work it

Work it with short jerks and pauses on the rod tip to imitate an injured baitfish, rigging either weightless for a slow surface presentation or on a jighead to fish deeper water. Keep the rod tip low and watch the line closely, since bites from light-game species often show up as nothing more than a faint tap or a slight change in tension.

The setup it likes

A light to medium-light spinning rod, a 2000-2500 reel, 4-8 lb main line and a matching fluorocarbon leader suit both the jerk-and-pause retrieve and the range of rig weights this bait can carry. A soft, forgiving rod tip helps cushion light hooks and fine leaders so fish stay pinned all the way back to the net or rock ledge.
