Description

アピタイト (Appetite) is a sinking pencil lure that XESTA developed for light game fishing, aimed at rockfish (mebaru) holding around rocky rubble and horse mackerel (aji) feeding on larger bait - situations where the maker's official page says a pencil approaches the target more efficiently and effectively than a worm.

It is tuned to a weak wobbling action, and a fixed centre-of-gravity system keeps that action stable through both the swim and the fall. XESTA also built in its "Pivot Changer" (PAT.) system, which the official page states greatly improves the recovery rate when the lure snags - letting anglers work tight structure, fish after dark, and reach points they previously couldn't approach. The swimming action

A weak, controlled wobble runs through both the swim and the fall, held stable by a fixed centre-of-gravity system rather than a wandering action. Xesta's Pivot Changer system also lets the lure clear snags and keep working after contact with structure.

When to throw it

A sinking pencil for light game fishing around rocky rubble and structure holding mebaru, and for aji feeding on larger bait than usual. It is built to work tighter to structure, after dark, and in spots a soft-plastic worm cannot reach as efficiently.

How to work it

Work it on a slow, steady retrieve or gentle twitches, letting the fixed-weight design hold its action through the fall as well as the retrieve. The snag-clearing Pivot Changer allows a more direct approach to cover most anglers would avoid.

The setup it likes

Suits a light rockfish/aji rod, a 2000–2500 size spinning reel, PE0.4–0.8 or 3–6 lb fluorocarbon main line and a light fluorocarbon leader — enough backbone to work a larger 60mm pencil while staying finesse-friendly.
