Description

The ALDEBARAN DC is Shimano's small-diameter DC-brake baitcasting reel, built around the Magnum Light Spool IV and the latest I-DC5 brake. Reverse-taper spool shaping keeps line lay even and reduces spool vibration for a long, low-trajectory cast; the compact 30mm-diameter/19mm-width spool keeps rotational inertia low. I-DC5 combines a 3-mode (L/M/H) dial with a 5-stage brake dial for 15 total brake settings, letting anglers dial in trouble-free casting regardless of line type. Silent Tune and an S3D-cut spool add further quietness and smooth spin-up, while Micro Module Gear, X-Ship and a HAGANE body handle the drivetrain and rigidity. Shimano positions the ALDEBARAN DC for black bass, kurodai (black porgy), and light rockfish saltwater games.

This is the DC31XG (left-handle) model: gear ratio 8.9, max drag 4kg, self-weight 150g, spool diameter/width 30/19mm, max retrieve 84cm per handle turn, 40mm handle, 10 ball bearings + 1 roller bearing. Nylon line capacity: 8lb-100m / 10lb-80m / 12lb-65m. PE line capacity: 1-185m / 1.5-120m / 2-90m.

Japanese product name: 25アルデバランDC31XG.

FAQ

Is the JDM version different from the US or AU release?

Often, yes. JDM releases can differ in spool depth, weight and handle options, and the Japanese lineup is usually broader — including sizes and models never exported.

Will spare spools from my current reel fit?

Spool compatibility is per generation, not per model name. Check the model year and size code against the spool before buying — the model code is listed on every reel.

What size should I choose?

As a ladder: 1000–2500 for finesse and light lines, 2500–4000 for general lure work, 4000 and up for heavy or salt duties. Match the size to your line and water first.

PG, HG or XG — what's the difference?

PG is a slow, powerful gear for cranking. HG is the all-round high gear. XG is the fastest retrieve for picking up slack quickly — higher speed trades away winding torque.

What warranty or service do imported reels have?

There is no local service centre for a JDM reel. Repairs and servicing go back to Japan, usually with a fee and a multi-week turnaround — weigh that before you buy.

Can I still get spares for older JDM-only models?

Often, yes — Japanese makers keep parts lists for older models, and some spares are stocked here. See the spares and custom parts collection, or ask before you order.
