The Shad 65 MR SP Area ver. keeps the tight-rolling action and stable straight-line tracking of the standard HMKL Shad line, tuned to suspend and refined with input from M.A.T's Shigeta Yuma for area pond conditions.

When to throw it

Built specifically for area (stocked pond) trout, it suits the tighter, clearer water of managed ponds where a suspending presentation that holds in the strike zone outperforms a sinking or floating bait.

How to work it

Fish it on a slow, steady retrieve or work it with subtle twitches and pauses, letting the suspending action hold depth in front of neutral or inactive trout rather than forcing a fast presentation.

The setup it likes

A light 5 to 6 foot UL area-trout spinning rod suits the Shad 65's 5.7g weight, matched with a 1000 to 2000 size reel and 2 to 4lb fluorocarbon or light braid with a short fluorocarbon leader.
