MARS SM-90 (ストライクミノー90 / Strike Minnow 90) is Hill Climb's shad-tail soft plastic worm built exclusively for the STRIKE HEAD jig head system. It is a size-up version of the SM-75, which earned its reputation as a surf flatfish bait — the extra size lifts the lure's appeal while the material, tail shape and angle were engineered so the larger body doesn't cost any of the biting action.

It swims with a steady action on a straight retrieve and stays flexible enough to work on lift-and-fall too, so besides flatfish it also takes sea bass and largehead hairtail (tachiuo). The swimming action

Rigged on Hill Climb's Strike Head jig system, the SM-90 tracks straight on a steady retrieve with a shad-tail kick, and stays soft enough to keep working through lift-and-fall pauses without losing shape. The 90mm body is a size-up from the SM-75, built to swim the same way at a larger profile.

When to throw it

Built as a surf flatfish bait, the SM-90 suits sandy surf and beach gutters where hirame and flounder sit close to the bottom. The same soft plastic also takes sea bass and tachiuo working similar structure, making it a useful searching bait along open beaches and river mouths.

How to work it

Work it with a slow, steady retrieve along the bottom to keep the tail kicking, or add a lift-and-fall cadence to imitate a wounded baitfish settling back down. Match jig head weight to the depth and current so the SM-90 stays in contact with the bottom.

The setup it likes

A 7 to 8 foot ML surf or light spinning rod suits the SM-90 on a Strike Head jig head, paired with a 2500 to 3000 size reel, 10 to 14lb braid and a 16 to 20lb fluorocarbon leader for bottom contact in the surf.
