Description

Wigglla 40 (Wigglla 40) is a 40mm, 1.7g jointed micro minnow. The joint body gives it a lifelike swimming action, and its no-weight setup produces a subtle, natural wobble/flutter that triggers strikes on the pause.

Main targets are mebaru (rockfish) and aji (Japanese horse mackerel). It's a slow-sinking lure worked in the 10-30cm range with a slow retrieve — slow enough that you can barely feel the lure vibrating — from breakwaters and rocky shorelines. Stop-and-go retrieves and slow falls are recommended when fish are hesitant to bite.

Information

The swimming action

A jointed micro minnow with no built-in weight, producing a subtle, natural wobble and flutter that triggers strikes on the pause rather than an aggressive swimming action. Its small profile and light-game action suit the fine lines and small hooks typical of aji and mebaru sessions after dark.

When to throw it

Aimed at mebaru and aji from breakwaters and rocky shorelines, particularly when fish are hesitant and a slow presentation is needed. Most productive around lit areas, breakwaters and harbour structure after dark, when aji and mebaru move up in the water to feed.

How to work it

Retrieve slowly in the 10-30 cm range, slow enough that you can barely feel it vibrating; use stop-and-go retrieves and slow falls when the bite is difficult. Keep a taut, slack-free line so you can feel the subtle taps that light-game species give before fully committing to the bait.

The setup it likes

7'6 inch-8'6 inch light-game spinning rod, 1500-2000 reel, 3-5 lb PE, 4-6 lb fluorocarbon leader. A soft, sensitive tip helps detect light-game bites while the light line and leader keep the small bait casting properly on light tackle.
