A tungsten rod set inside the lead body concentrates the iT38's mass into a compact, aerodynamic profile, so it flies further than a lure of similar weight and sinks fast on a tight, stable path. Once it touches down it holds position on the bottom rather than lifting off in rough surf or a crosswind.

Built for open surf beaches and exposed points where flounder (hirame) and flathead (magochi) sit tight to the sand in wind and swell that would push a lighter lure around. It earns its keep when distance and bottom contact matter more than a slow, subtle presentation.

Cast beyond the target zone, let it settle on the bottom, then work it with a slow drag-and-pause or a low, steady wind so it stays in contact with the sand. Flatfish typically take on the pause, so give it time to sit still between movements.

Pair it with a 9-10ft surf spinning rod rated to around 40g, a 4000-5000 reel, PE1.5-2 braid and a 20-25 lb fluorocarbon leader to punch it out against wind and hold bottom contact through the retrieve. A firm drag setting helps drive the hook home at range on this class of bottom-contact lure.
