The Salty Bait Wave (ソルティー・ベイトウェーブ) is a 100g tai-rubber/inchiku hybrid jig that blends the food-appeal feel of a tai-rubber head with the flash appeal of a metal jig. Its multi-faceted Stream Slim Head throws metal-jig-like sparkle with a squid-like realism and wobbles on a straight retrieve, while the trailing necktie skirt sways well even at slow speed so it can also be fished tairaba-style on a straight retrieve. A UV-reactive Real Eye is fitted across all colours, and the 100g size adds a tunable Bumper Eye. It is rigged with a size-13 staggered twin assist hook (13号×13号段差針) and works on a straight retrieve, bottom bumping, or short-pitch jerk, for madai (red seabream), rockfish and aomono (pelagic species).

When to throw it

Fished for madai (red seabream), rockfish and aomono (pelagic species) wherever a straight-retrieve tai-jig is preferred over a traditional tairaba drop-and-wind, or to add flash appeal to a slow-fall presentation. It suits both drifting and anchored boat sessions, wherever a straight-retrieve or bottom-bumping presentation is preferred over a traditional tairaba drop.

How to work it

Drop to the bottom and work it on a straight retrieve to show the wobble and flash, or fish it tairaba-style with bottom bumping or short-pitch jerks for a slower, food-appeal presentation. Keep contact with the head throughout the retrieve so the skirt keeps pulsing, and be ready for a take at any point in the wind.

Suits a 6'-6'6" tairaba boat rod rated to around 100g, a small baitcast tairaba reel, PE0.8-1.5 braid and a 4-6 lb fluorocarbon leader. A slow, steady wind of roughly 60 to 80 rpm is typical for this style of jig, and a soft-tipped tairaba rod helps absorb light pecks from cautious fish.
