Description

SUNAMARU (砂丸) is Buddy Works' surf-specific spin-tail jig for flatfish (ヒラメ / hirame), built to solve the three common spin-tail complaints: reduced casting distance, blade-and-hook tangling, and low hook-up rates from blade bites.

The body rolls with a tight, regular spoon-like action while the original #3.5 blade rotates with a slight synchronized sway, appealing to flatfish. A deliberate single-hook (#6) system keeps the roll consistent and stable, and concentrates bites on a compact target for a higher hook-up rate. The blade attaches via a swivel (#0) set back from the body edge so it does not tangle with the hook.

SUNAMARU is a surf-specific spin-tail jig built to fix the usual spin-tail problems: lost casting distance, blade-and-hook tangling and low hook-up rates from blade bites. The body rolls with a tight, regular spoon-like action while the attached blade rotates with a slight synchronised sway, adding flash without upsetting the roll.

When to throw it

Aimed at hirame from the surf, the 35g/54mm SUNAMARU suits sandy beaches and shore breaks where casting distance and a stable, consistent roll matter more than an erratic action. It is a good option when standard spin-tails have been tangling or missing fish on the blade.

How to work it

Retrieve steadily to keep the tight roll and blade sway consistent, since the deliberate single-hook system concentrates bites on a compact target for a higher hook-up rate. The blade sits back from the body edge on its own swivel, so it will not tangle with the hook even on a slower retrieve.
