Description

The U30 Flat Pin Tail 4.5in is a soft plastic worm from Bait Breath that pairs a bulky, one-directional body with a flat-profile pin tail for a distinctive swimming action. It uses a newly developed, relatively buoyant material for extra vibration and presence in the water, and its flat tail face lets anglers flip the hook orientation to add a darting action that helps trigger strikes.

It targets rockfish and flatfish, and also works as a chatterbait trailer for black bass. Recommended rigging includes Texas rig, Carolina rig, neko rig, jighead and chatterbait trailer setups.

Information

The swimming action

U30 Flat Pin Tail pairs a bulky, one-directional body with a flat-profile pin tail in a relatively buoyant material, giving extra vibration and presence in the water than a standard pintail. The overall profile stays consistent and predictable cast after cast, which matters when fish are keying on a specific size or cadence rather than anything flashy or erratic.

When to throw it

It targets rockfish and flatfish around structure, and also works as a chatterbait trailer for black bass when a bulkier trailer profile is wanted. Anglers who fish the same marks regularly tend to keep one rigged as a default option for exactly these conditions rather than switching in and out.

How to work it

Rig it Texas-style, on a Carolina rig, neko rig, jig head or as a chatterbait trailer; flipping the hook orientation on the flat tail face adds a darting action. Most bites come down to getting the pace and pause right for the conditions on the day, so it is worth experimenting rather than settling on one fixed cadence.

The setup it likes

A 6.5-7ft light-to-medium rock fishing or bass spinning rod, a 2000-2500 reel, 8-12lb line or PE0.6-1 with a fluorocarbon leader suit this buoyant worm. This combination keeps the outfit light enough for repeated casting through a full session while leaving enough backbone in reserve to turn a solid fish away from structure.
