The GEM works as a sinking wall plug rather than a horizontal swimmer: a forward-mounted sinker gives it a stable, controlled fall on a slack line, and pulling it back into a walking cadence keeps it tracking tight against vertical structure before it drops again.

It suits autumn wall-chinu sessions along harbour walls, seawalls, river mouths and canal edges where black porgy and kibire sit tight to vertical structure. It reads best in calmer water where the fall can be watched and timed, rather than in heavy surf or strong cross-current.

Work it with the traditional otoshikomi drop-fishing rhythm: lower it to the wall face, let it free-fall on a taut line, twitch it into a short walking retrieve, then pause and let it fall again. Most bites come on the fall or the pause that follows it.

A light-to-medium chinu or rock-fishing spinning rod around 7-8ft, a 2500 reel, 6-8lb main line and a short fluorocarbon leader give enough control over the fall while staying light enough to feel a subtle take. This combination keeps the outfit light enough for repeated casting through a full session while leaving enough backbone in reserve to turn a solid fish away from structure.
