Abu Garcia Conolon (コノロン) is a classic-styled rod series pairing a natural wood original gun grip with a Fuji SiC guide ring on a stainless frame, using the Fuji KR guide concept. This is the CNLC baitcasting branch of the range; the CNLS spinning models are listed separately.

The CNLC-454UL is built for stream/headwater fishing with light plugs and small spoons, a portable 4-piece rod in a cream blank. The CNLC-505L is also a stream/headwater rod, sized for heavy sinking minnows and spoons, a portable 5-piece rod in an orange blank. The CNLC-555ML is a bass rod for small plugging such as poppers and pencil baits, a portable 5-piece rod in a black-and-gold blank. The CNLC-605M is a bass rod for 1oz-class topwater plugs, a portable 5-piece rod in a metallic red blank.

The blank

A classic-styled blank paired with a natural wood gun grip loads smoothly through short baitcasting strokes, staying light and portable in the multi-piece stream models while carrying enough backbone in the bass models to work topwater plugs firmly and drive a hook home on the strike.

What it's built for

The 454UL and 505L suit stream and headwater fishing with light plugs, small spoons and heavier sinking minnows for native trout, while the 555ML and 605M step up to bass water for small plugging and 1oz-class topwater work around cover and open banks.

How it fishes

Work the stream models with a slow, twitch-pause retrieve to draw a following trout, and the bass models with a walk-the-dog or steady popping cadence, using a firm but controlled hook-set on the take rather than an oversized baitcasting-style sweep.

The setup it likes

Pair the stream models with a small baitcasting reel and 2-4lb line for delicate presentations, and the bass models with a 6:1-7:1 low-profile reel and 10-16lb fluorocarbon or braid for driving hooks home around cover. Always check knots and terminal connections before a session, particularly when stepping up to heavier drag settings.
