  • TUNA SHOT 72 - 7.2ft, 430g. Built for bluefin tuna (黒鮪) over 50kg, with a flexible tip inherited from the TUNA SHOT 75 for controlling large pencil baits. Drag max 18kg at 45°, lure weight max 180g, line PE max 12号 (recommended PE8-10号) - also suited to GT and large amberjack (ヒラマサ).

What makes it different

Built to fish, not just to sell

The blank

A stout offshore casting blank with a tip built to load big pencils and poppers for distance, and a butt/belly section that stiffens quickly under load. The 72 keeps a touch more tip flex, inherited from the TUNA SHOT 75, for controlling large pencils; the 70 is the stiffer of the two for pure lifting power.

What it's built for

Built for boat sessions targeting giant bluefin tuna over 50kg and monster tuna past 100kg, plus mahi-mahi through midsummer into autumn on the 70, and bluefin, GT and large amberjack on the 72.

How it fishes

A casting-only design meant for repeated long casts with heavy pencils and poppers, then a full-drag fight held at 45–60° rod angles as the fish runs and the angler pumps and winds. Not built for jigging or bottom work.

The setup it likes

Pair with a large lever-drag or high-power baitcast reel capable of holding an 18kg drag, PE8–12 mainline and a heavy fluorocarbon or wind-on leader sized to the target species and casting distance required.

FAQ

What does the power rating (UL, L, M, MH) actually mean?

JDM power letters often run lighter than the same letter on a US or Australian blank. The honest spec is the lure-weight range in grams on each listing — match that to what you throw, and use the letter as a tiebreaker.

How do I read Japanese rod lengths?

Japanese lengths are written in feet and inches as a decimal: 6.6 reads as 6 feet 6 inches, not six-point-six feet.

One-piece or multi-piece for travel?

Two-piece and telescopic travel rods pack shorter and ship more easily. One-piece blanks feel cleaner, but long parcels can attract courier length surcharges and some carriers route them more slowly.

What warranty or service do imported rods have?

There is no local service centre for a JDM rod. Repairs go back to Japan, usually with a fee and a multi-week turnaround — we state that plainly so you can weigh it before you buy.

Will a one-piece rod cost more to ship?

It can. Long parcels attract courier length surcharges on some routes and can move through fewer carriers. Any shipping cost shows at checkout before you pay — no surprises after the order.
