Description

The HORIZON Progressive (ホライゾンプログレッシブ) is TENRYU's latest HORIZON-series offshore light jigging rod, built with an ergonomic, minimally decorated design for improved handling and durability.

Blanks use TENRYU's high-modulus C.N.T (Carbon Nano Tube) composite for easy jig control with plenty of reflex strength. Baitcasting models carry titanium-frame K-series guides with Torzite rings, while spinning models use a SiC-ring top guide; the reel seat is finished in TENRYU's original NISHIJIN textile (TCS for baitcast, VSS for spin).

Recommended lure type is jigs, targeting medium-sized blue-back fish, sea bream, flatfish and rockfish.

The C.N.T carbon-nanotube blank loads through a slow, regular curve, giving a soft tip for working jig cadence while keeping solid reserve power lower down. It telegraphs jig contact and bottom bites clearly through the titanium-frame K-guides, and the parabolic bend spreads load evenly when a fish runs, rather than concentrating strain at the tip alone.

What it's built for

Built for light offshore jigging over reef and open structure, the HORIZON Progressive range spans 60g micro jigs on the spinning LL model up to 300g jigs on the baitcasting H model. It suits vertical jigging for blue-runner species, sea bream, flathead and rockfish, where a lighter, more sensitive blank out-fishes a standard heavy jigging rod.

Work jigs on a steady slow-pitch lift and controlled fall, letting the blank's parabolic action move the jig on the drop rather than relying on aggressive rod strokes. The soft tip also handles a straight wind-and-pause retrieve for suspending fish, and registers subtle bites on the fall well before they reach the angler's hand.

Match the HPG66B-ML to a small to mid-size lever-drag or round baitcaster spooled with PE 0.6 to 1.5 and a 25lb fluorocarbon leader, stepping up through the M, MH and H models with heavier PE and up to 35lb leader as jig weight increases; the spinning models pair with a 2500 to 4000 size reel on matching line classes.

JDM power letters often run lighter than the same letter on a US or Australian blank. The honest spec is the lure-weight range in grams on each listing — match that to what you throw, and use the letter as a tiebreaker.

How do I read Japanese rod lengths?

Japanese lengths are written in feet and inches as a decimal: 6.6 reads as 6 feet 6 inches, not six-point-six feet.

One-piece or multi-piece for travel?

Two-piece and telescopic travel rods pack shorter and ship more easily. One-piece blanks feel cleaner, but long parcels can attract courier length surcharges and some carriers route them more slowly.

What warranty or service do imported rods have?
