Fates PACKER (フェイテス・パッカー) is TENRYU's 2026 multi-piece fly rod series, built as a "Multi-Piece Rod for Trekking & Travel" that packs down small enough for a fishing vest or backpack on hikes into headwaters and mountain-stream expeditions across a wide range of Japanese streams.

The blanks use a stress-free bend curve for a smooth casting feel TENRYU says you wouldn't expect from a multi-piece rod, giving accurate fly-line control and a natural presentation. The grip is a cigar-type cork with a slightly thicker front section, paired with an up-lock reel seat. Target species: trout.

This listing stocks all three Fates PACKER models: the 6-piece #3-weight FP706-#3 (2.14m/7'0", 39cm closed, 59g) - a headwater trekking model built for pinpoint casting in bushy, drop-off-heavy mountain streams; the 6-piece #3-weight FP766-#3 (2.29m/7'6", 42cm closed, 61g) - an all-rounder for mountain streams to rural rivers that also handles leaders up to 16ft; and the 6-piece #4-weight FP806-#4 (2.44m/8'0", 45cm closed, 63g) - an all-rounder for mountain, mid- and mainstream water, suited to char and yamame trout as well as rainbow trout in winter catch-and-release areas.

How it fishes

Present dry flies and nymphs with accurate, pinpoint casts in tight headwater cover, or extend to longer leaders and drifts on the FP766-#3 and FP806-#4 in more open water.

The setup it likes

Match the #3 models to a lightweight #3 reel and line with a 7.5–9ft leader to 6X-7X tippet, and the FP806-#4 to a #4 reel and line with a 9ft leader to 5X-6X for slightly larger water.
