What makes it different

Built to fish, not just to sell

The blank

Three years of tuning each 4-piece section's power zone eliminates the usual action loss of a multi-piece rod, giving a wide release-timing window and a supple, resilient feel able to work heavy sinking minnows through the tip-to-belly section.

What it's built for

Hiro Motoyama's flagship stream bait-finesse rod, designed to be shorter and more portable than the 2-piece BST-HM and 3-piece BST-EXS lines that preceded it, for tight, brushy mountain-stream trout water.

How it fishes

At 4'7" and rated for 1-7g lures, the 47UL suits the tightest, most overgrown source-stream water where a short rod is needed to work under low cover.

The setup it likes

Pairs with a shallow-spool spinning reel on 2-6lb line, matched to spinners and sinking minnows within the 1-7g rating.

FAQ

What does the power rating (UL, L, M, MH) actually mean?

JDM power letters often run lighter than the same letter on a US or Australian blank. The honest spec is the lure-weight range in grams on each listing — match that to what you throw, and use the letter as a tiebreaker.

How do I read Japanese rod lengths?

Japanese lengths are written in feet and inches as a decimal: 6.6 reads as 6 feet 6 inches, not six-point-six feet.

One-piece or multi-piece for travel?

Two-piece and telescopic travel rods pack shorter and ship more easily. One-piece blanks feel cleaner, but long parcels can attract courier length surcharges and some carriers route them more slowly.

What warranty or service do imported rods have?

There is no local service centre for a JDM rod. Repairs go back to Japan, usually with a fee and a multi-week turnaround — we state that plainly so you can weigh it before you buy.

Will a one-piece rod cost more to ship?

It can. Long parcels attract courier length surcharges on some routes and can move through fewer carriers. Any shipping cost shows at checkout before you pay — no surprises after the order.
