Description
BAYLINER MK (ベイライナー MK) is Smith's rod line dedicated to mekki (juvenile trevally) and kamasu (barracuda) plugging, built around plugging sensitivity above all else. It's tuned so you can feel a plug's vibration through hard twitching and still register the subtle change in lure action when a fish is trailing it. Sensitivity and light weight are pursued without leaning solely on high-modulus material, which keeps twitch timing and rhythm easy to hold and avoids the lure getting "bounced off" by a following fish.
Guides are Fuji K-guides (S-type SiC ring) across the range: the butt-side guides are stainless-frame KL-H/KL-M, the rest are titanium-frame K-guides. Blanks are 24t carbon, tubular construction. The 661ML/MK and 681L/MK use a detachable grip with a shortened front section so fingers can touch the blank directly during minnow work; the 702ML/MK is the only 2-piece model, on a woven-graphite spigot ferrule. Metal rings are blue-toned, with a chip-resistant EVA grip end.

What does the power rating (UL, L, M, MH) actually mean?
JDM power letters often run lighter than the same letter on a US or Australian blank. The honest spec is the lure-weight range in grams on each listing — match that to what you throw, and use the letter as a tiebreaker.
How do I read Japanese rod lengths?
Japanese lengths are written in feet and inches as a decimal: 6.6 reads as 6 feet 6 inches, not six-point-six feet.
One-piece or multi-piece for travel?
Two-piece and telescopic travel rods pack shorter and ship more easily. One-piece blanks feel cleaner, but long parcels can attract courier length surcharges and some carriers route them more slowly.
