Description

BAYLINER AKBM (ベイライナー AKBM) is Smith's multi-purpose light-game rod line supervised by Kozo Okubo, targeting aji, kisu, bera and mebaru. It covers plugs and worms through to choi-nage-style shore-game bait fishing worked with a lure-like feel, with a delicate tip built to read the soft, inhaling bites of fish like aji and a high-sensitivity build for feeling out the sea bottom in shore-game situations.

All models are 2-piece on a 24t+30t carbon tubular blank. Guides are Fuji K-guides (S-type SiC ring): on the spinning models the two butt-side guides are stainless-frame PKL, the rest titanium-frame K-guides; on the bait finesse models the two butt-side guides are stainless-frame PKW, the rest titanium-frame K-guides. The tip is finished pearl white for bite visibility, with fluorescent-yellow guide wraps for low-light use, and all 2-piece joints use a woven-graphite spigot ferrule. Metal rings are orange-toned, with an orange camouflage EVA grip end in Okubo's signature colour.

This listing is the BL-C812ML/AKBM bait finesse model: 8'1", 126g, rated for 1.5-21g lures and PE0.2-1.5 line, Medium Light power / Moderate Fast action, 420mm grip length, 126cm packed length, 24t+30t graphite blank, 1.5mm tip diameter. It handles light jighead rigs through to hard lures and choi-nage bait fishing, with baitcasting-specific advantages -- pinpoint casts, one-touch clutch readiness and thumb-controlled fall speed -- suited to small rocky areas, high seawalls and tetrapods, and boat drop-fishing.

FAQ

What does the power rating (UL, L, M, MH) actually mean?

JDM power letters often run lighter than the same letter on a US or Australian blank. The honest spec is the lure-weight range in grams on each listing — match that to what you throw, and use the letter as a tiebreaker.

How do I read Japanese rod lengths?

Japanese lengths are written in feet and inches as a decimal: 6.6 reads as 6 feet 6 inches, not six-point-six feet.

One-piece or multi-piece for travel?

Two-piece and telescopic travel rods pack shorter and ship more easily. One-piece blanks feel cleaner, but long parcels can attract courier length surcharges and some carriers route them more slowly.

What warranty or service do imported rods have?

There is no local service centre for a JDM rod. Repairs go back to Japan, usually with a fee and a multi-week turnaround — we state that plainly so you can weigh it before you buy.

Will a one-piece rod cost more to ship?

It can. Long parcels attract courier length surcharges on some routes and can move through fewer carriers. Any shipping cost shows at checkout before you pay — no surprises after the order.
