TROUTIN' CAST TACTIST (トラウティンキャストタクティスト), produced by Hitoshi Hiramoto, is Smith's fast-action native-trout baitcasting rod.

With modern baitcasting reels having advanced so far that backlash is no longer something to fear, TACTIST is built to throw a satisfying trajectory, work the lure exactly as intended, and feel bites through a sensitive, tactile touch — the name is coined from the Latin root for "touch."

All models are 2-piece; blank material is 24t+30t graphite, unsanded finish; guides are Fuji titanium-frame Torzite on all models in a micro K-guide setting, with the top guide alone using a titanium-frame SiC ring. A neodymium magnet hook keeper (patent pending) is built into the front cork.

Japanese lengths are written in feet and inches as a decimal: 6.6 reads as 6 feet 6 inches, not six-point-six feet.
