Description

The Rapala Speed Trap 1/8oz ST18 (model 6594-018) is a floating crankbait with a body length of approximately 5.5cm and a weight of approximately 8g, rigged with two size 10 treble hooks. It runs to a depth of around 1.5m on the retrieve.

Its tight wobble-roll action stays balanced even at very high retrieve speeds, making it a search bait for covering water quickly. A dry, one-knocker rattle gives a natural sound that doesn't overpower the presentation, and the model has a long track record with tournament anglers.

Information

The swimming action

Like the larger ST14, the ST18 keeps a tight wobble-roll action that stays balanced at very high retrieve speeds, with a dry, one-knocker rattle adding sound without overpowering the presentation.

When to throw it

A search bait for covering water quickly in its smaller 1/8oz size, suited to bass fishing across open flats, points and grass lines, or as a finesse option when fish are keyed on smaller profiles.

How to work it

Wind it fast and steady to cover ground; the tight wobble holds together at speed, and deflecting it off cover still produces a clean reaction strike.

The setup it likes

A medium baitcasting or spinning rod suits the twin No.10 trebles, matched to 8–12 lb fluorocarbon or 20–30 lb braid with a fluorocarbon leader on a reel geared for fast retrieves.
