KOHIRA (コヒラ) is a 53mm, approximately 6.4g floating flat-side crankbait from Pay Forward, released October 2021. It's a bite-sized flat-side crank modelled on small forage fish such as juvenile bluegill and crucian carp, built non-rattle with a roll-focused, trout-spoon-style constant retrieve action; its slow-floating buoyancy holds a steady 50cm-1m running range even at slow speeds. It comes rigged with an Ichikawa Fishing Kamakiri 84S #8 treble hook. Target species: bass.

The swimming action

A small, tight-wobbling crankbait that digs down quickly on the retrieve and bounces cleanly off cover without fouling, holding its action even at slow crawl speeds.

When to throw it

Useful around shallow to mid-depth cover such as rock, timber and dock pilings, particularly effective when bass are keyed on small baitfish or crustaceans.

How to work it

Retrieve steadily to make contact with cover, pausing briefly after each deflection off rock or timber to trigger a reaction strike from a following bass.

The setup it likes

A medium baitcasting or spinning rod with a moderate tip, 10-14 lb fluorocarbon line, matched to a 6.3:1 reel for consistent depth control around cover.
