This listing stocks the 180cm (6 sections, 38cm stored length, 0.9mm tip / 12.0mm butt diameter) and 210cm (7 sections, 38cm stored length, 0.9mm tip / 14.3mm butt diameter) lengths, both fitted with a round EVA foam grip.

A fibreglass furidashi-zao (telescopic pole) built specifically for mahaze fishing, with a round EVA foam grip and a fine 0.9 mm tip tapering to a sturdy butt for a traditional feel in the hand.

What it's built for

Built for goby (mahaze) fishing from piers, canal banks and estuary shallows, a classic Japanese still-fishing style through the warmer months. Goby move into shallow water close to structure during these months and are easiest to target.

How it fishes

Fished by dropping a small baited rig close to the bottom near structure and watching or feeling the fine tip for a goby's light take. Strike with a short, gentle lift as soon as the tip moves.

Pair with a small reel or fixed-line setup and light line suited to close-range bait fishing. Match small hooks and light sinkers to local goby size. A small fixed-spool or centrepin-style reel suits this simple still-fishing style well.
