Description

The Bulky Gimlet (バルキーギムレット) is a powerful straight worm built to target large horse mackerel (aji). It takes the standard Gimlet straight worm and its cone ("gimlet"/kiri) shaped tail as a base and tunes the body thicker and longer.

The upper body is sized to fit both standard aji-ing jig hooks (#4/M class) and the larger jig hooks used for big aji (#2/L class), with a shallow-rib structure for hook retention. The waist notch flexes with only light force on the bite, helping deliver a high hook-up rate. The lower body is bulked up compared to the original Gimlet with a single continuous taper running to the tail tip, boosting water push and fall stability; a deep-rib structure keeps this bulkier lower body supple rather than stiff. The moderately weighted cone tail stays sensitive to current without moving too erratically, producing an effective fine micro-vibration.

It's molded in a super-soft, non-salted tune of Evergreen's original worm material, prioritising supple action and easy suck-in while keeping high durability and slip resistance, and blended with a special squid, shrimp, fish and amino-acid formula for attraction and feeding power. It suits shore aji-ing, boat aji-ing and vertical boat aji-ing.

The swimming action

The Bulky Gimlet is a thick-bodied straight worm for aji, with a cone-shaped tail and a continuous taper down the lower body that boosts water push and keeps the fall stable, producing a fine, steady micro-vibration rather than an erratic wobble.

When to throw it

It targets larger horse mackerel (aji) and suits shore aji-ing, boat aji-ing and vertical boat aji-ing where a bulkier, more visible profile than a standard aji worm is needed to draw bites from bigger fish.

How to work it

Thread it onto a jig head sized to the water depth and current — standard aji jig hooks for typical fish, or larger jig hooks for big aji — and work it with a slow lift-and-fall or steady swim, letting the soft, non-salted body do the fine vibration work.

The setup it likes

A light aji-ing rod rated to around 15g with a 2000-size spinning reel, PE 0.3–0.6 line and a 1–2lb fluorocarbon leader suits most jig head weights used with this bait.
