This size is set up mainly for dawn/dusk feeding times, targeting giant Seto Inland Sea mebaru (Japanese rockfish) that move into feeding mode in the main current. Its slide action glides at the same speed as the 10g size but with a slightly smaller slide width, suited to mebaru with shorter chase distances. Work it with a slow, roughly 1m lift-and-fall just under the surface, gradually lowering the range; bites mostly come on the free fall. If the fall gets a poor response, try retrieving it reversed and steady just under the surface. For daytime bottom fishing, snap it up relatively hard for a reaction bite and let it fall free.

A compact metal jig that glides on a slide-and-dart fall, with a wavering back-slide action that hangs and glides sideways rather than dropping straight to the bottom. The 7g size falls with a slightly smaller slide width than the larger sizes in the range, suiting fish that will not chase as far or as fast.

When to throw it

Light-game rockfish (mebaru) sessions around harbours and rock structure, particularly at dawn and dusk when fish move into the main current to feed. It suits the giant Seto Inland Sea-style mebaru fishery this size was developed for, where fish sit tight to structure and respond to a slow, gliding fall worked close by.

How to work it

Work a slow, roughly one-metre lift-and-fall, gradually lowering the range through the water column as the retrieve progresses. Most bites come on the free fall, and if that gets a poor response, try a steady retrieve just under the surface or a reversed retrieve instead of the usual lift-and-fall cadence.
