Bait Breath Flat Pin Tail 4.5

Flat Pin Tail pairs a bulky, ribbed body with a flat-profile pintail for a stronger, more constant vibration than a standard straight tail, with a buoyant material that lets the bait sit up off bottom. That consistency is worth noting because a bait that changes character between casts tends to draw fewer follow-up strikes than one anglers can rely on to repeat the same motion.

It targets rockfish and flatfish around structure, and also works as a chatterbait trailer for black bass when a bulkier profile is wanted. It is worth having rigged before a session starts, since the situations it covers are common enough that reaching for it mid-session often costs a missed window.

Rig it Texas-style, on a Carolina rig, neko rig, jig head or as a chatterbait trailer; flipping the hook orientation on the flat face adds a darting action when needed. Varying the pace and the length of each pause through a session is usually the quickest way to work out what the fish want on a given day.

A 6.5-7ft light-to-medium rock fishing or bass spinning rod, a 2000-2500 reel, 8-12lb line or PE0.6-1 with a fluorocarbon leader suit this bulky worm. That balance of rod, reel and line keeps casting accuracy high without sacrificing the strength needed to see a decent fish through to the net or the wall.
