Kurofune Ika（黒船イカ）is Abu Garcia Japan's saltwater boat squid rod series from Pure Fishing Japan, prioritising light weight with a balanced sensitivity-to-control ratio. The KLIC-180M is the "Light Ika" model with a 7:3 fast taper (confirmed from the model's own blank markings).

The series lineup targets yari ika (ヤリイカ, spear squid) and maru ika (マルイカ, round squid) as well as other Japanese squid species; secondary targets include flounder, pufferfish and rockfish. Features include Fuji New Concept guides on a micro-guide system (~50% lighter guides), X-carbon tape wrapping for torque/twist resistance, and a matte finish that resists PE line adhesion.

A lightweight blank on a micro-guide system keeps the rod sensitive enough to feel a squid's light touch through the tip, with a 7:3 fast taper that loads quickly on the lift and unloads sharply enough to set light squid-jig prongs cleanly.

Worked with a rhythmic lift-and-drop cadence, pausing on the fall where squid usually strike, and a smooth, steady lift rather than a hard strike to set the jig's barbless prongs without pulling free. Small changes in cadence often make the difference between a follow and a committed strike from a cautious fish.

The setup it likes

Pair with a small baitcasting boat reel, PE0.6-1.5 line and a short fluorocarbon leader or a direct connection, depending on the local style favoured for squid fishing on the boat. Fine-tune line and leader strength up or down slightly to suit local conditions and the average size of fish encountered.
