The swimming action

The OK Bubbly is a 20 mm hollow-bodied hybrid: twitched, the hollow rear chamber pops and bubbles like a small topwater plug; wound on a straight retrieve it rolls into a tight, shallow-crank wobble instead. That switch between two actions from the same small body is the point of the design.

When to throw it

Suited to stocked area-trout ponds and small lakes where fish sit high in the water and respond to surface commotion, particularly in calm, clear conditions and around midday when trout are looking up. A useful searching bait when standard spoons and minnows have gone quiet.

How to work it

Work it with sharp twitch-pause sequences to trigger the popping action, pausing long enough for the ripple to settle before the next twitch. Alternatively wind it back steadily for a subtler shallow-running wobble; both approaches suit light spinning gear and thin fluorocarbon.

The setup it likes

Pairs well with an ultralight area-trout rod (UL–L power), a small 1000-size spinning reel, 2–3 lb fluorocarbon or nylon main line and no leader — standard light area-trout tackle.
