LUXXE maika (ラグゼ 舞香) is a dedicated ayu (sweetfish) lure rod from Gamakatsu's LUXXE line, designed for lure-fishing ayu in clear mountain streams. Ayu are traditionally caught on barbless hooks, so the blank uses a purpose-built solid tip and a flexible rod action that holds steady tension on the fish, reducing missed hooksets and torn-out hooks, while keeping the casting feel and responsiveness needed to work a lure. High sensitivity lets the angler read the ayu's takes, the riverbed contours, and the current within the riffle. The name “maika” combines 舞 (dance), for the way ayu dance gracefully through the current, and 香 (fragrance), from the fish's old nickname 香魚 (“fragrant fish”) for its fresh scent.
