Fishman Beams calmer8.6M (ビームスカルマー 8.6M) is a baitcasting egi (squid jig) rod, built to keep tension and line control through hard, sharp jerks during squid egging while making bottom detection and thumb-drag control easier than a spinning setup.

Construction: 4-axis carbon (99%) in a 3-piece reverse-overlap layout — high-elasticity carbon on the surface layer over a low-elasticity core so vibration still transmits cleanly across the joints. K-guides in titanium and stainless (titanium at the tip).

A 4-axis carbon blank built in a reverse-overlap layout keeps high-elasticity carbon on the surface over a low-elasticity core, so vibration transmits cleanly across the joints even under the hard, sharp jerks egi fishing demands.

What it's built for

Built for squid egging on a baitcasting platform, where keeping tension and line control through aggressive jerks and easier bottom detection and thumb-drag control matter more than casting distance. This suits fishing from boats or piers within easy reach of squid grounds.

How it fishes

Worked with sharp, snapping jerks to dart the egi lure, followed by a controlled fall on a taut line, using thumb pressure on the spool to detect the subtle take of a squid grabbing the lure on the drop.

The setup it likes

Pair with a small baitcasting reel, PE 0.4-1 line and a fluorocarbon leader. Keep the leader short enough for direct contact with the jerked egi. This keeps direct contact through the sharp jerks the egi technique relies on.
