Description

The Boso Frog PowerKicker is a mid-layer swimming frog from Engine's Boso Frog series, built with significantly heavier arms and legs than the standard model for a smoother swim and a stronger water push that draws fish in. It weighs 12g, making it easy to cast and well suited to swimming-style presentations such as jig-strolling or minnow-strolling retrieves.

The reinforced relaxed-leg design also holds up in more complex cover without the legs tearing off, keeping its high-appeal action intact. Supplied two lures per pack and FECO-certified. Available in 5 colourways: #12 White, #19 Sight Chartreuse, #21 Cinnamon Blue Flake, #82 Boso Choice and #121 Watermelon Frog.

Information

The swimming action

Significantly heavier arms and legs than the standard Boso Frog give a smoother swim and a stronger water push that draws fish in from further away, while the reinforced relaxed-leg design holds up in complex cover. That balance of action and durability matters most once the frog is worked into cover thick enough to smother a lesser hollow-body design after only a few fish.

When to throw it

A mid-layer swimming frog suited to open cover and vegetation edges where a swimming presentation rather than a straight walk is more likely to draw a strike. Overcast skies, low light and the last hour before dark are typically when the biggest bass move up onto the mat or pads to feed on the surface.

How to work it

Fish with jig-strolling or minnow-strolling style retrieves to let the heavier arms and legs push water steadily, rather than a fast walk-the-dog action. Keep slack out of the line through the retrieve so the hookset can be driven home the instant a fish engulfs the bait rather than just swirling at it.

The setup it likes

A medium-heavy to heavy frog rod, a baitcaster, 30-50 lb braid and no separate leader suit the swimming-style retrieves this heavier frog is built for. A stiff, fast-taper blank matters here, since it takes real rod pressure to pull a big bass clear of matted cover once it has been hooked.
